Meet the ZoHa Islands Staff Part Five!

It seems I didn’t get all of our amazing ZI staff profiled yet and we have some new people that have come on board, so welcome to the fifth installment of Meet your ZI Staff! I’m excited to introduce you to Anastasia Nightfire, Saralynn Karu, and Aden Slingshot!

Anastasia Nightfire (Jewel Carolina): Sales Agent

Anastasia resized Ana is a new hire at ZoHa Islands. She works for us as a sales agent and we are excited to have her with us!  Ana is a long-time SLer, having been in-world for seven years. She says that she can’t remember what drew her to SL, but she’s glad she’s here.

Previous to her employment with ZI, she has worked in sales for many other estates, most recently at Surreal Estates before ZI was fortunate enough to have her join our staff.

When asked what she likes to do best in SL, she states that she enjoys many roles as a mom, daughter, sister, and confidant. When asked what her favorite places in SL were, she says, “I have MANY fave places. ”

In RL, Ana is married and has four wonderful kiddos.

Saralynn Karu: Estate Manager

Saralynn Karu Sara is a relative newcomer to SL, as she has been in SL for a year. She says she got into SL because her RL father in law and her husband were into it, and so she decided to join them.   Having an experienced resident of SL to guide her helped a lot. What a big difference it makes to have someone to mentor you when you’re new so you can be miles ahead of a newbie.

She has been an employee of ZI for a year, so she really hit the ground running in SL. Currently she is an EM, but  she has also held the positions of sales agent and tier reminders.

When asked what she likes to do in SL, she states, “I just come on and work.”

In RL, Sara is married and has two children. She loves to go camping, have cook outs and spend time with friends and family.

–•~~❤~~•–

Aden Slingshot: Estate Manager

Aden SlingshotAden is an SL veteran, having been in-world for seven and a half years. He came into SL because his RL family played it.  Aden has worked for ZoHa Islands for a year and half and is one of our estate managers.  He has also worked as a sales agent, estate manager’s assistant, and productions manager. He also did land setups and tier reminders.

Previous to ZI, Aden has worked for several other estates.

When asked what he liked to do in SL, Aden says, “I like to hang out and meet new people.”

In RL, Aden is married and has two children.

That’s it for this installment of Meet Your ZI Staff. Hope everyone has a great day!

As always, I remain respectfully yours,

Bryn Oh’s Singularity of Kumiko

“When there is nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire”  ~ from Bryn Oh’s profile

Bryn Oh is a well-known and critically-acclaimed artist in both SL and RL. Bryn’s latest creation in SL is an incredible display called the Singularity of Kumiko. Bryn brings her art to life in SL with this interactive exhibit, where you literally immerse yourself in her art. Appropriately, she named her group “Immersiva,” an Italian word that translates to “Immersive.”

Canadian-born, Bryn’s blog describes herself this way: “Bryn Oh is a virtual artist created by a Toronto oil painter.” A biography from the Virtual Art Initiative website says that Bryn “makes her living…as a painter whose work is sold by a major galley to collectors around the world. Having received her art education in Toronto and Florence, Italy, her paintings have been exhibited in many galleries in North America and Europe. A meticulous and highly skillful landscape painter, she uses high quality oils and acrylics that she makes herself from raw materials, working the paint with a wide variety of layering and sculptural brush techniques, on large canvasses that engulf the viewer in an almost immersive experience of the human impact on the natural world. In fact it is her interest in immersion that led her to experiment with the art of virtual worlds, and over the past year she has established herself as one of the finest builders and installation artists in Second Life.”

Immersiva 1_001

In order to have the best experience, Bryn has limited access to her exhibit to 15 avatars at a time, and yet receives over 600 visitors a day! This allows you to wander the exhibit and experience it fully without worrying about lag, crashing the sim due to overload or crowding. It is a dark, stark exhibit and is best experienced with few other avatars around. Her art is not everyone’s cuppa, but it is truly brilliant, eerie and disturbing all at the same time.

Immersiva 2_001When you first land, you are presented with instructions to change your windlight settings for an optimal viewing experience. Then, you proceed to the tables where you learn how to navigate the exhibit and pick up your free headlamp. Don’t miss this step, because you will need it! It is dark in the exhibit, and while some ambient light emanates from some of the art, most of the sim is nearly pitch black. Lastly, you read about the exhibit, the 14 letters you are to pick up, and finally, how to enter the sim.

Immersiva 5_001You approach the red door, and in local, you give the magic word. As the door opens, you walk into a tunnel and it spills you out onto the scene of an accident and the story begins to unfold. As you move from place to place, looking for the bottles with letters inside them, you are immersed in the environment. It is tempting to cheat and change your light settings, but don’t do so! It is worth it to experience the exhibit the way the artist intended.

Immersiva 6_001As you progress, you may not encounter the letters in order. But as you begin to collect information, you start to realize that it is a conversation between two people, Kumiko and Iktomi, and that one is stuck in some sort of limbo, while the other encourages the  other “cross over.” The mangled bicycle and car wreck in the beginning of the story begin to take on more significance. But look out for Mr. Zipper, a child’s toy transformed into something menacing. Listen for the squeaky wheel, because if you fail to notice him, he will kill you and you will have to return and start over. It doesn’t do any good to take weapons inside there, either, because Mr. Zipper is impervious to weapons. Believe me, I tried! You simply have to dodge and weave, and run like crazy so he doesn’t kill you.

Immersiva 10_002The entire experience is something out of a nightmare, but fascinating at the same time. The sounds, such as creaking, thumping, flapping of wings, sing-songy children’s music, and buzzing of some sort of insects as you walk around will raise goosebumps on your skin. It is fun, scary, creepy and altogether shivery, but well worth the tour. Take the time to visit Singularity of Kumiko,  you won’t be disappointed!

I am as always respectfully yours,

~ Suzanne Piers, ZoHa Islands Social Media Manager

The LeFevre Mansion

” My home has to be an expression of eternal stability, elegance and openness”

~ Marcus Lefevre, Oct. 2013

One of the things that I love about Second Life are the many amazing creators and builders who are residents here. One of my favorite things to do in SL is to find beautiful and unusual places to visit and just walk around in awe of the amazing builds. Truly unique user driven content is one of the many things unique to SL that isn’t available in most virtual worlds.

I was privileged to be invited to the grand opening of  the Lefevre Mansion.  The mansion is an architectural masterpiece by the famed owner and creator of the Rose Theater/ Angel Manor, Kaya Angel. The details are exquisite and the textures are stunning throughout the region.

In the words of Marcus LeFevre himself:

“Kaya has created my SL dream home with elegant interior design and beautiful landscape that literally invites you to take a walk in the park. The Lefevre Mansion is overall a stately home, a small world in itself, with a church, indoor and outdoor pools, a small hidden beach, forests, ponds, lakes culminating with the elegant mansion on the top of the hill.

The Lefevre Mansion will also feature the most amazing all men’s shop called: Pour SL Homme and a beautiful Art Gallery at the entrance of the Mansion regions. The Art Gallery will be brought to life by the well known Rose Theater Galleries curator, Kylie Angel Skyborne and will host regularly changing exhibitions from the best artists in Second Life. To top it all off the Lefevre Mansion is also honored to host the the all new Partycular Theater For the Performing Arts. ”

It is difficult to find the proper adjectives that can encompass the stately grandeur of this amazing home, grounds, and outbuildings. The church has details that far outstrip most I’ve seen in SL. The pipe organ alone has painstaking details, and the stained glass is amazing. I hope he will rent it out to brides and grooms for weddings; it’s truly a majestic, and you feel like you’re walking on hallowed ground. The pool area is large and the area behind the mansion reminds me a bit of the grounds at Hearst’s Castle in California. When you walk over to the art museum, there is a gate, and a gate keeper. The guard will open the gates for you, and greet you warmly. Take a stroll through the museum and persue the beautiful SL art by only the finest SL artists.

When you first land, you will be in front of Pour SL Homme, an amazing store with vendors for men’s clothing from different designers of only the highest caliber. In front of you will be a TP board, where you can TP to the different parts of the region. You can TP to the mansion itself, the park, the beach, the church, the forest, the lake, or the art museum. They invite visitors, but please be respectful of the living quarters. If you would like a tour of the Mansion, please contact Marcus LeFevre for permission. The grounds, art museum and store are all available for public strolling.

This is a must-see in Second Life. Here is the SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Lefevre%20Mansion/22/29/22.

I’ve made a slideshow of the pictures I took while there. I’m sorry I didn’t get more of the interior, but I was unable to stay long enough to explore the mansion.

I remain always respectfully yours,

~ Suzanne Piers, ZI Social Media Manager

Meet Your ZoHa Islands Staff Part Four!

Happy Friday, everyone! I don’t know about you, but I am really looking forward to the weekend. I hope everyone has had a wonderful and productive week and a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend ahead!

In the fourth and final installment in the Meet Your ZI Staff, I am very pleased to introduce to you last, but certainly not least, Galadea Resident, JasonX Baxton, and me!

Galadea Resident: Estate Manager

Galadea profile pic (confederate flag) resizedGaladea is one of our “younger” staff members, as she has been in Sl a little over two years. She came to SL because of a RL friend, which seems to be a common theme.  It really helps to get a jump start on SL when you have a friend to show you the ropes! Galadea has been with ZI  since May of 2013, and is one of our hard-working EMs.

Despite having been in SL for a relatively short time, Galadea has worked several very interesting and varied jobs. She lists the following as former employment: Hostess, host manager, dancer, dj, dj manager, club manager, owner of a wedding venue, owner of a club, and Estate Manger for Resident Estates.

In her free time in SL, she states that she loves to help others, hang out with friends, and go dancing. She listens to music while she works.

In RL, Galadea has been married for 17 years, and has two children – a daughter age 16, and a son age 11. Galadea has many interests and activities outside SL, and include fishing, playing pool, bowling, hiking, camping, cooking out.

JasonX Baxton: Estate Manager

Jasonx resizedJason is another SL veteran, as he has been in SL just shy of seven years. When asked what drew him to SL, he said, “I had a couple of friends that have told me a little bit about it. At first I didn’t like it, but then I came back and discovered lots of wonderful people all around the globe.”

Jason was an EM with Bonaire Estates before the buyout, and ZI was fortunate enough to pick him up as EM. He said he started as sales agent with Bonaire, but then moved to EM duties. He said he loves being a EM because he really enjoys people, and working with them to get their problem resolved.

Jason has worked other jobs in SL, including being a dj. After awhile, he took over the club from the owner, and ended up operating a couple of different clubs as a a general manager from 2008 until 2010. After that, he decided to go into real estate, because that gave him the opportunity to meet people from other cultures.

In his spare time in SL, he likes to hang out at his Pub that he owns in SL. He also enjoys landscaping and hanging out with his close friends.

In RL, Jason is not married and has no children (at least none that he knows of, he says with a grin.) He enjoys fixing and building computers, and tinkering with  electronics.

Suzanne Piers-Fromund: Social Media Manager

Suzanne Piers resizedAnd that leaves me! I have been in SL a long time. My original rez date under another avie was February of 2007, but I’ve been in SL as Suzanne since November of 2008. I first came into SL because I saw a segment about SL on the news, and I had to try it out! I rezzed in, looked around, had no idea what I was doing or what it was about. No one would talk to me. I bumbled about for a few days, then gave up. I tried again a few days later, but still didn’t get it. I didn’t log in again for several months. One evening, in early 2008, when I was really bored, I thought I’d try it again. I finally started getting some help and became a solid citizen of SL. In August of 2008, I attracted a stalker, and in order to get away, I killed off my original avie and reinvented myself as Suzanne, and I’ve been here ever since! I met my amazing SL hubby, Fritz Fromund, when I first rezzed in under my original avie back in 2007. He was one of the very few people I kept as friends when I became Suzanne in 2008. We kept in touch sporadically. Then, in May of 2010, we found we were both single at the same time. We got together for a date, and the rest is history! We married in SL in September of 2010, and we have been very happy ever since.

I have been with ZI about two weeks now. I was hired as the Social Media Manager, a job they haven’t had before, so I am dedicated to making it work and creating good marketing exposure on social media. Prior to ZI, I had been with Bonaire Estates for about six months as their Events Manager.  My job with Bonaire was my first responsible job in SL. Prior to that, I’d worked as a dancer in a club, was promoted to lead dancer and eventually tired of the drama among the dancers. I didn’t work at all for a time, then decided to attend modeling school at the Miss Virtual World Modeling Academy, and graduated from there. Modeling had too much drama, too. Then in September of 2012 I started a wedding officiating and planning business. That grew into a brisk business, and I have performed over 60 weddings in SL since that time! When I was with Bonaire, I took very few wedding clients because my job was so busy. I am excited that my job at ZI allows me enough flexibility so that I can start doing weddings again!

In my spare time in SL, I love decorating our home, shopping, going dancing, listening to live music, and hanging out with the wonderful friends I’ve made from around the world. I live in California in RL, and I have friends in Germany, Australia, Canada, and all over the US. What a wonderful experience this is. My husband Fritz says my hobby is house swapping, because I constantly get bored with the house we’re in, want to go shop for a new one and decorate it! We are very excited to finally have an entire homestead sim to ourselves here on ZI, and we are in the process of making it into our own coastal beach retreat.

In RL, I’m divorced and happily single. I am 55 years old and I have two grown sons, ages 31 and 26. I do not have any grandchildren yet. I live in California, and I work as an HR Director for a nonprofit agency. I love my job (most of the time) but nonprofits are notoriously cash- strapped, so I do the work of two, but it keeps me out of trouble! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching movies (in home and in the theater), listening to music, writing, doing counted-cross stitch, and hanging out with friends. I also love to travel, especially on the back of a motorcycle. My favorite place in the world to be is on the beach at the ocean.

–•~~❤~~•–

This ends the series on our awesome ZoHa Island staff. Please feel free to IM me in world or comment here if you have anything you’d like me to blog about, or any ideas for promotions. I am so excited about my ZI job! I enjoy seeing some familiar faces from Bonaire, and I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of the ZI staff and residents, as well. Everyone has been very welcoming.

Thank you, and I always remain respectfully yours,

~ Suzanne Piers, ZI Social Media Manager

Meet Your ZI Staff Part Three!

Deelish Wishbringer: Business District Manager

deelish resizedDee is a long-time SL veteran, having been in world for a little over nine years. She is truly one of those who has seen some significant changes to SL since those beginning days. Dee has been with ZI around nine months or so. In her job as business district manager, she takes care of creating ads for business owners that go into the ad boards and on the website, greets newcomers to the business district, and give free biz consults if they would like advice. Dee says that she hasn’t held any other jobs in SL prior to her employment at ZI. She keeps busy with her own clothing, furniture, and prefab business, among other things.

Dee’s favorite things to do in SL involve hanging with her SL family. Dee says, “We go to The Broken Spoke Biker Bar a lot, and go to live performances, etc.”

In RL, Dee has been married for 20 years. She and her husband have one child,  two dogs, two cats and three chickens. In her spare time, she makes jewelry and hair accessories (and sometimes refurbished fashion items, clothing, hats, etc.) and sell them on her etsy store and website.

Midnight Reign: Sales Agent

Midnight Reign resizedMidnight originally rezzed into SL in August of 2007, but has been in SL under this avie since November of 2010. He first came into SL because a very good friend told him about SL, and he never looked back. He says, “I’ve met great friends from across the globe, some have been long term.”

Midnight came to us from Bonaire Estates. He had worked there about a week before the sale, and currently works at ZI as a sales agent.

Prior to that, Midnight hasn’t had an SL job before. He says, “This is my first real job, and I love it.” He and his wife have owned and operated stores, but only has worked for himself up until recently. He is excited that his store is back under construction, and plans on opening it with his RL wife very soon.

When asked what he likes to do in SL in his free time, he says, “I like to see concerts, and play Greedy, and talk to old friends, and make new friends. I have a ranch with lots of different  animals, such as horses, dogs, and now wild cats.”

In RL,  Midnight’s favorite saying describes him: “I am as county as your gun wrapped in camo.” He is an Army veteran, and was in the infantry. He broke his hip right before Airborne school, and was Honorably discharged for medical reasons. After leaving the Army, he was a tattoo artist until the discomfort from sitting grew to be too much. Today, he still does body piercings. Midnight says, “I am happily married with two kids and five grandchildren. My youngest daughter graduates this year. I love the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and  camping, off road driving is a blast, and bonfires on a cool night.”

Issabella40 Resident: Estate Manager

Issabella resizedIssy has been in SL under various avies for six years. She came to SL because she heard about it on a TV program, and decided to come in and check it out. She has been here ever since!

Issy has been an EM with Zoha Islands about two months. Prior to that, she worked various jobs, but for the past year and a half she has been involved in real estate doing land sales which she loves, and gaining her EM skills. In the past, she has worked for  NewFoundland Estates,  Bonaire, and now ZI.

Well when she is not working, her favorite SL activities include hanging out with friends and talking.  Issy says, “And just like most women in SL, I love to shop!”

In RL, Issy has been married for 17 years. She enjoys scrapbooking, and of course, SL!

–•~~❤~~•–

Patrisha Carter (misspatrisha resident): Estate Manager

2012 patrisha resizedPatrisha has been in SL for seven years, also a long-time SL’er. Like many of us, a friend showed her the game and she was hooked.

Patrisha has been with ZI for a little over two years. She started as a sales agent, and then worked her way up to Estate Manager. She has held other jobs in SL, such as being a host for a few clubs, and managed a horse ranch.

In her spare time in SL, Patrisha likes to breed wild cats.

When asked about her RL, Patrisha shared, “I am 55 yrs young and divorced. All my kids have left home leaving me bored. Finding Second Life, and especially ZoHa Islands, was a blessing, as it gave me a job and a social life. I am a jack of all trades but a master of none, meaning I like to try new things.”

Meet the ZI Staff Part Two

Hello ZI residents and future ZI residents! I thought I’d post about four more awesome ZoHa Island staff, plucked in random order from a virtual hat. Today, I introduce to you Elite Carter, Ahwi Ash, Arsin Resident, and KiraLynnn Resident.

Elite Carter: Estate Manager

My Elite resizedOne of the great things about ZI staff, is that they have been in SL for many years, and Elite is no exception. He has been in SL since April of 2007. He came into SL because a friend told him about it, and he had to come see for himself.

Elite has been with ZI for two years. He started as a sales agent and is now an Estate Manager.

When asked what he likes to do in SL when he’s not doing EM duties, Elite says, “I love the interaction with  people all over the world, its challenging. I love  to go to live events to hear  music and dance  with my partner.”

In RL, Elite has been married for 28 years. He and his wife have two daughters. He is a proud Grandfather, as well.  He loves to ride his Honda Goldwing  motorcycle, and dining out in nice restaurants.

–•~~❤~~•–

Ahwi Ash: Sales Agent

Ahwi resizedAnother SL veteran, Ahwi has been in Second Life for nine years. When asked what brought her into Second Life, Ahwi says that in RL she is an avid rolepayer. She had heard that Second Life has 3-D graphics and also has places for Gorean rp, so she had to come and check it out. Ahwi says, “I had been used to text based roleplay in Gorean places, and someone recommended Second life. I thought to give it a try, and have yet to leave. I keep finding new things to explore and find the creativity of others just fantastic.”

Ahwi has been a sales agent with ZI for almost two years. Prior to that, she worked as a host in an SL bar. What she loved about that job was being able to be personable with the customers, making people laugh and smile, and helping them forget about their troubles for awhile.

When not working in SL, Ahwi likes rp, as well as build medieval, Gorean and biker themed items in her SL store, Legacy Creations. She also breeds fish. Her favorite places include her shop, of course, and she recently found a great urban roleplay sim called Verge.

In RL, Ahwi has very interesting and varied interests and activities. She does medieval reenactments, and enjoys heavy list fighting. “Strapping on armor and beating others with sticks… no really, ‘I want to kill you, not hurt you’ is a common phrase,” she laughs. Ahwi has no children, but loves her niece and nephews greatly, and enjoys spending time with them. She is also a volunteer firefighter and EMT.  She works as a reiki master, and volunteers her time in the local hospital treating children with terminal illnesses. She brews mead, makes cordials, does weaving, hiking, gardening, going for long rides with friends.  Ahwi is also learning to ride a motorcycle and she can’t wait for spring to be able to ride.

–•~~❤~~•–

Arsin Resident: Estate Manager

Arsin working resizedArsin has been a resident of Second Life for a little over five years. He states that he came into SL because of his wife, and he enjoyed it so much he stayed.

Arsin has been with ZoHa Islands for four months and works as an Estate Manager.

While in-world, he is a builder. When asked what his favorite places are in SL, he states, “My sim when I am not working.”

In RL, Arsin is married. He and his wife have four kids. His hobbies are being in SL, and working on and building computers.

–•~~❤~~•–

KiraLynnn Resident (Kira): Sales Associate (and unofficial EM)

KiraLynnn Resident resizedKira has been in SL originally for six years. When asked what drew her to SL, Kira says that she had a friend who was into Second Life. Kira says, “She told me about it and so thought I’d check it out. Originally I didn’t like SL but a few months later I went back and got hooked.”

Kira has been with ZI about three years. Her main job with ZI is as a sales associate, and she does occasional unofficial EM duties, as well. In the past, has worked as a manager for an escort club called The Bishes Club. She developed her people management skills there, which serves her well in her customer service position in sales. She added land management expertise when she worked for RGF, another land company in SL, before she came to ZI.

In her free time in-world, Kira is fortunate in that she really enjoys her job selling land and helping customers. Kira states, “I also like to hang out with my SL sister, who is also an estate manager for Zoha Islands. I met her way before we became co-workers for the same staff team.” As far as her favorite places in SL, Kira says that would be anywhere her friends are.

In RL, Kira is single and does not have children. “I work online, Kira says, “and so here I am.” In addition to working online in SL, Kira also has her fingers in other things, such as running a hair accessory business, all online.

Stay tuned; more ZI staff introductions are coming! Next time, I will profile Deelish Wishbringer, Farrah Farquart, and Issabella40 Resident.
