The LeFevre Mansion

” My home has to be an expression of eternal stability, elegance and openness”

~ Marcus Lefevre, Oct. 2013

One of the things that I love about Second Life are the many amazing creators and builders who are residents here. One of my favorite things to do in SL is to find beautiful and unusual places to visit and just walk around in awe of the amazing builds. Truly unique user driven content is one of the many things unique to SL that isn’t available in most virtual worlds.

I was privileged to be invited to the grand opening of  the Lefevre Mansion.  The mansion is an architectural masterpiece by the famed owner and creator of the Rose Theater/ Angel Manor, Kaya Angel. The details are exquisite and the textures are stunning throughout the region.

In the words of Marcus LeFevre himself:

“Kaya has created my SL dream home with elegant interior design and beautiful landscape that literally invites you to take a walk in the park. The Lefevre Mansion is overall a stately home, a small world in itself, with a church, indoor and outdoor pools, a small hidden beach, forests, ponds, lakes culminating with the elegant mansion on the top of the hill.

The Lefevre Mansion will also feature the most amazing all men’s shop called: Pour SL Homme and a beautiful Art Gallery at the entrance of the Mansion regions. The Art Gallery will be brought to life by the well known Rose Theater Galleries curator, Kylie Angel Skyborne and will host regularly changing exhibitions from the best artists in Second Life. To top it all off the Lefevre Mansion is also honored to host the the all new Partycular Theater For the Performing Arts. ”

It is difficult to find the proper adjectives that can encompass the stately grandeur of this amazing home, grounds, and outbuildings. The church has details that far outstrip most I’ve seen in SL. The pipe organ alone has painstaking details, and the stained glass is amazing. I hope he will rent it out to brides and grooms for weddings; it’s truly a majestic, and you feel like you’re walking on hallowed ground. The pool area is large and the area behind the mansion reminds me a bit of the grounds at Hearst’s Castle in California. When you walk over to the art museum, there is a gate, and a gate keeper. The guard will open the gates for you, and greet you warmly. Take a stroll through the museum and persue the beautiful SL art by only the finest SL artists.

When you first land, you will be in front of Pour SL Homme, an amazing store with vendors for men’s clothing from different designers of only the highest caliber. In front of you will be a TP board, where you can TP to the different parts of the region. You can TP to the mansion itself, the park, the beach, the church, the forest, the lake, or the art museum. They invite visitors, but please be respectful of the living quarters. If you would like a tour of the Mansion, please contact Marcus LeFevre for permission. The grounds, art museum and store are all available for public strolling.

This is a must-see in Second Life. Here is the SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/The%20Lefevre%20Mansion/22/29/22.

I’ve made a slideshow of the pictures I took while there. I’m sorry I didn’t get more of the interior, but I was unable to stay long enough to explore the mansion.

New JIRA Changes Are Now Live!

Hot off the presses!
by Community Manager Linden Lab on ‎03-06-2014 02:52 PM

As we blogged about last week, we’re making some changes to our JIRA implementation to make our bug reporting system a more transparent and productive experience. We just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that these changes are now live!

One of the questions we’ve seen in the past week is how previously submitted issues would be treated – namely, will those also be viewable by everyone and open for comment prior to being triaged?

While we want to make issues visible for the reasons described in our last post, we’re not going to extend this to old issues, because at the time they were created, users knew that those reports would have limited visibility and they may have included sensitive and/or private information. We don’t want to take information that someone thought would be private and suddenly make that visible to everyone, so the new visibility settings will apply only to new issues.

Introducing SL Go from OnLive!

Have you wished you could access SL from your tablet, and been frustrated with the chat-only client? Have you been out somewhere, or  simply sitting all comfy in your recliner and wishing you could pick up your tablet and get in-world? Well, now you can! SL Go,introduced in beta format, is an SL client that allows you to access SL with full 3-D graphics. This is hot off the presses:

by Community Manager Linden Lab ‎03-05-2014 09:05 AM – edited ‎03-05-2014 09:45 AM

OnLive, the leader in cloud gaming, today released an exciting new service for Second Life users. SL Go, now in open beta, is a mobile Second Life viewer for Android that delivers a fully immersive desktop-like experience on tablets.

With SL Go, you can experience Second Life from anywhere you have Wi-Fi or 4G connectivity, with ultra high-quality graphics, full shaders, shadows, and the Advanced Lightning Model on Android devices. Not only can you get high-quality graphics on a low-powered device, but you also don’t have to sacrifice frame rate or draw distance for high fidelity inworld explorations. Thanks to super-fast gigabit connections with OnLive’s high-performance gaming servers, objects and textures rez quickly when logging in and teleporting. OnLive has clocked the SL Go viewer at upwards of 200 fps set to Ultra with Maximum Render Distance, allowing people to participate in events, engage in combat games, and generally enjoy immersion in Second Life at a level never before possible on a mobile device.

With SL Go, OnLive has brought touchscreen interaction to the Second Life experience, but if you prefer keyboard and mouse, you can opt to connect these devices and interact with your friends in the same way you always have. SL Go gives you access to edit menus, inventory, preference settings and chat management just like the Second Life Viewer on your home computer.

You’ll need an OnLive account to launch the app, and then you’ll log into Second Life with the same credentials you’ve always used. To learn more, register, and get started with a free trial now, visit slgo.onlive.com.

For the time being, SL Go is available to users logging in from the US, Canada and the UK. OnLive plans to expand the service to other locales in the future, so if you are interested in having SL Go in your region, sign up here. The company is also pursuing an iOS version of the app. You can sign up here to be notified when it is released.

Changes to JIRA Implementation

This was posted by Linden Labs on Feb. 28, 2014. It has some great information and announces changes to the JIRA which is a bug reporting system for SL users. Read on:

By Community Manager Linden Lab ‎02-28-2014 09:44 AM – edited ‎02-28-2014 09:55 AM

“Today, we’re happy to announce some changes to our JIRA implementation – the system we use to collect, track, and take action on bugs reported by users. You’ll see these changes take effect next week.

Recently, this system was working in a way that wasn’t very transparent, and it frankly wasn’t a good experience for the users who care enough about Second Life to try to help improve it, nor was it the best set-up for the Lindens tasked with addressing these issues. So you can see why we’re happy to be changing it!

Moving forward, we’re going to make our JIRA implementation a more transparent experience. All users will be able to see all BUG issues, all the time. You’ll be able to search to see if there are duplicates before submitting an issue, and if there’s a bug that’s particularly important to you, you can contribute your info to it and see when it’s been Accepted and imported to the Linden team.

You’ll also be able to comment. Before an issue is triaged, everyone can comment to help isolate and describe the issue more clearly. Do remember, there are some basic guidelines for participation that need to be followed. Once an issue is Accepted and imported by Linden Lab’s QA team, the original reporter will still be able to comment, as will Lindens and a small team of community triagers – a group that includes some third party Viewer developers and others selected by Linden Lab for having demonstrated skills in this area. This group has been invaluable in helping to keep the bug database orderly and cross-referenced as well as troubleshooting bugs before they’re triaged, and we’re glad to have their continuing help with this process.

Lastly, “New Feature Request” is back! If you’ve got a great idea for a feature, you don’t need to slip it through the system disguised as a bug report – just select the “New Feature Request” category when you submit. Commenting for this category will work just like for bug reports, and submitting improvements through this category will make things much easier for the Linden team reviewing these. Please remember that JIRA is an engineering tool – it’s not meant for policy discussions and the like nor is it a replacement for the Forums, where you can have all kinds of stimulating discussions.

If you’re one of the many who have taken the time to submit a bug report through the JIRA system – thank you! We really appreciate your work in tracking down the issues, and it’s a significant help to us as we continue to improve Second Life.

We think these changes will make for a better, more transparent and more productive experience for all of us, but if you have additional ideas on ways to improve our implementation, you can share them with us in this Forum thread.”

Meet Your ZoHa Islands Staff Part Four!

Happy Friday, everyone! I don’t know about you, but I am really looking forward to the weekend. I hope everyone has had a wonderful and productive week and a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend ahead!

In the fourth and final installment in the Meet Your ZI Staff, I am very pleased to introduce to you last, but certainly not least, Galadea Resident, JasonX Baxton, and me!

Galadea Resident: Estate Manager

Galadea profile pic (confederate flag) resizedGaladea is one of our “younger” staff members, as she has been in Sl a little over two years. She came to SL because of a RL friend, which seems to be a common theme.  It really helps to get a jump start on SL when you have a friend to show you the ropes! Galadea has been with ZI  since May of 2013, and is one of our hard-working EMs.

Despite having been in SL for a relatively short time, Galadea has worked several very interesting and varied jobs. She lists the following as former employment: Hostess, host manager, dancer, dj, dj manager, club manager, owner of a wedding venue, owner of a club, and Estate Manger for Resident Estates.

In her free time in SL, she states that she loves to help others, hang out with friends, and go dancing. She listens to music while she works.

In RL, Galadea has been married for 17 years, and has two children – a daughter age 16, and a son age 11. Galadea has many interests and activities outside SL, and include fishing, playing pool, bowling, hiking, camping, cooking out.

JasonX Baxton: Estate Manager

Jasonx resizedJason is another SL veteran, as he has been in SL just shy of seven years. When asked what drew him to SL, he said, “I had a couple of friends that have told me a little bit about it. At first I didn’t like it, but then I came back and discovered lots of wonderful people all around the globe.”

Jason was an EM with Bonaire Estates before the buyout, and ZI was fortunate enough to pick him up as EM. He said he started as sales agent with Bonaire, but then moved to EM duties. He said he loves being a EM because he really enjoys people, and working with them to get their problem resolved.

Jason has worked other jobs in SL, including being a dj. After awhile, he took over the club from the owner, and ended up operating a couple of different clubs as a a general manager from 2008 until 2010. After that, he decided to go into real estate, because that gave him the opportunity to meet people from other cultures.

In his spare time in SL, he likes to hang out at his Pub that he owns in SL. He also enjoys landscaping and hanging out with his close friends.

In RL, Jason is not married and has no children (at least none that he knows of, he says with a grin.) He enjoys fixing and building computers, and tinkering with  electronics.

Suzanne Piers-Fromund: Social Media Manager

Suzanne Piers resizedAnd that leaves me! I have been in SL a long time. My original rez date under another avie was February of 2007, but I’ve been in SL as Suzanne since November of 2008. I first came into SL because I saw a segment about SL on the news, and I had to try it out! I rezzed in, looked around, had no idea what I was doing or what it was about. No one would talk to me. I bumbled about for a few days, then gave up. I tried again a few days later, but still didn’t get it. I didn’t log in again for several months. One evening, in early 2008, when I was really bored, I thought I’d try it again. I finally started getting some help and became a solid citizen of SL. In August of 2008, I attracted a stalker, and in order to get away, I killed off my original avie and reinvented myself as Suzanne, and I’ve been here ever since! I met my amazing SL hubby, Fritz Fromund, when I first rezzed in under my original avie back in 2007. He was one of the very few people I kept as friends when I became Suzanne in 2008. We kept in touch sporadically. Then, in May of 2010, we found we were both single at the same time. We got together for a date, and the rest is history! We married in SL in September of 2010, and we have been very happy ever since.

I have been with ZI about two weeks now. I was hired as the Social Media Manager, a job they haven’t had before, so I am dedicated to making it work and creating good marketing exposure on social media. Prior to ZI, I had been with Bonaire Estates for about six months as their Events Manager.  My job with Bonaire was my first responsible job in SL. Prior to that, I’d worked as a dancer in a club, was promoted to lead dancer and eventually tired of the drama among the dancers. I didn’t work at all for a time, then decided to attend modeling school at the Miss Virtual World Modeling Academy, and graduated from there. Modeling had too much drama, too. Then in September of 2012 I started a wedding officiating and planning business. That grew into a brisk business, and I have performed over 60 weddings in SL since that time! When I was with Bonaire, I took very few wedding clients because my job was so busy. I am excited that my job at ZI allows me enough flexibility so that I can start doing weddings again!

In my spare time in SL, I love decorating our home, shopping, going dancing, listening to live music, and hanging out with the wonderful friends I’ve made from around the world. I live in California in RL, and I have friends in Germany, Australia, Canada, and all over the US. What a wonderful experience this is. My husband Fritz says my hobby is house swapping, because I constantly get bored with the house we’re in, want to go shop for a new one and decorate it! We are very excited to finally have an entire homestead sim to ourselves here on ZI, and we are in the process of making it into our own coastal beach retreat.

In RL, I’m divorced and happily single. I am 55 years old and I have two grown sons, ages 31 and 26. I do not have any grandchildren yet. I live in California, and I work as an HR Director for a nonprofit agency. I love my job (most of the time) but nonprofits are notoriously cash- strapped, so I do the work of two, but it keeps me out of trouble! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching movies (in home and in the theater), listening to music, writing, doing counted-cross stitch, and hanging out with friends. I also love to travel, especially on the back of a motorcycle. My favorite place in the world to be is on the beach at the ocean.

–•~~❤~~•–

This ends the series on our awesome ZoHa Island staff. Please feel free to IM me in world or comment here if you have anything you’d like me to blog about, or any ideas for promotions. I am so excited about my ZI job! I enjoy seeing some familiar faces from Bonaire, and I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of the ZI staff and residents, as well. Everyone has been very welcoming.

Thank you, and I always remain respectfully yours,

~ Suzanne Piers, ZI Social Media Manager

Meet Your ZI Staff Part Three!

Happy Hump Day, everyone! Since we all know what day it is, and there isn’t any camel around, let me introduce you to four more of our amazing ZI staff.  Today I bring you Deelish Wishbringer, Midnight Reign, Issabella40 Resident, and MissPatrisha Resident

Deelish Wishbringer: Business District Manager

deelish resizedDee is a long-time SL veteran, having been in world for a little over nine years. She is truly one of those who has seen some significant changes to SL since those beginning days. She came into SL, like many people, because friends invited her to join them here. They used to play another online game together, and made the transition to SL.

Dee has been with ZI around nine months or so. In her job as business district manager, she takes care of creating ads for business owners that go into the ad boards and on the website, greets newcomers to the business district, and give free biz consults if they would like advice. Dee says, “I also hold expos in the BD office when i can get enough people to participate. ”

Dee says that she hasn’t held any other jobs in SL prior to her employment at ZI. She keeps busy with her own clothing, furniture, and prefab business, among other things.

Dee’s favorite things to do in SL involve hanging with her SL family. Dee says, “We go to The Broken Spoke Biker Bar a lot, and go to live performances, etc.”

In RL, Dee has been married for 20 years. She and her husband have one child,  two dogs, two cats and three chickens. In her spare time, she makes jewelry and hair accessories (and sometimes refurbished fashion items, clothing, hats, etc.) and sell them on her etsy store and website.

Midnight Reign: Sales Agent

Midnight Reign resizedMidnight originally rezzed into SL in August of 2007, but has been in SL under this avie since November of 2010. He first came into SL because a very good friend told him about SL, and he never looked back. He says, “I’ve met great friends from across the globe, some have been long term.”

Midnight came to us from Bonaire Estates. He had worked there about a week before the sale, and currently works at ZI as a sales agent.

Prior to that, Midnight hasn’t had an SL job before. He says, “This is my first real job, and I love it.” He and his wife have owned and operated stores, but only has worked for himself up until recently. He is excited that his store is back under construction, and plans on opening it with his RL wife very soon.

When asked what he likes to do in SL in his free time, he says, “I like to see concerts, and play Greedy, and talk to old friends, and make new friends. I have a ranch with lots of different  animals, such as horses, dogs, and now wild cats.”

In RL,  Midnight’s favorite saying describes him: “I am as county as your gun wrapped in camo.” He is an Army veteran, and was in the infantry. He broke his hip right before Airborne school, and was Honorably discharged for medical reasons. After leaving the Army, he was a tattoo artist until the discomfort from sitting grew to be too much. Today, he still does body piercings. Midnight says, “I am happily married with two kids and five grandchildren. My youngest daughter graduates this year. I love the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and  camping, off road driving is a blast, and bonfires on a cool night.”

Issabella40 Resident: Estate Manager

Issabella resizedIssy has been in SL under various avies for six years. She came to SL because she heard about it on a TV program, and decided to come in and check it out. She has been here ever since!

Issy has been an EM with Zoha Islands about two months. Prior to that, she worked various jobs, but for the past year and a half she has been involved in real estate doing land sales which she loves, and gaining her EM skills. In the past, she has worked for  NewFoundland Estates,  Bonaire, and now ZI.

Well when she is not working, her favorite SL activities include hanging out with friends and talking.  Issy says, “And just like most women in SL, I love to shop!”

In RL, Issy has been married for 17 years. She enjoys scrapbooking, and of course, SL!

–•~~❤~~•–

Patrisha Carter (misspatrisha resident): Estate Manager

2012 patrisha resizedPatrisha has been in SL for seven years, also a long-time SL’er. Like many of us, a friend showed her the game and she was hooked.

Patrisha has been with ZI for a little over two years. She started as a sales agent, and then worked her way up to Estate Manager. She has held other jobs in SL, such as being a host for a few clubs, and managed a horse ranch.

In her spare time in SL, Patrisha likes to breed wild cats.

When asked about her RL, Patrisha shared, “I am 55 yrs young and divorced. All my kids have left home leaving me bored. Finding Second Life, and especially ZoHa Islands, was a blessing, as it gave me a job and a social life. I am a jack of all trades but a master of none, meaning I like to try new things.”

That’s it for this installment. Until next time, I remain respectfully yours,
