Hi Residents!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve come to ask for a favor.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re in a really exciting time in the history of Second Life. We\u2019re in the home stretch on moving the grid to the cloud. We hit a fun milestone a few days ago, and now there\u2019s over 1,000 regions running in the cloud!<\/p>\n

Everyone in the Lab is working hard on this project, and we\u2019re moving very quickly. I just got out of a leadership meeting where we went over what\u2019s currently in flight, and there\u2019s so many things moving that I lost track of them all. It\u2019s amazing!<\/p>\n

The favor I\u2019ve come to ask you for is your patience.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re doing our very best to fix things that come up as we go. This means that we might need to restart regions more often than you\u2019re used to, and things may break just a little more often than we\u2019ve all been accustomed to.<\/p>\n

In order to get this project done as fast as possible and minimize the time (and resulting bugs) we have to spend with one foot in our datacenter and the other in the cloud, we don\u2019t want to limit ourselves to restarting regions just once a week. We\u2019re ready to get this project done! We\u2019ve seen how much better Second Life runs in the cloud, and we\u2019re ready to have everyone on the grid experience it.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sorry that things might be a little rough over the next few weeks. It\u2019s our goal to finish the cloud migration by the holidays, so that everyone, Resident and Linden alike, can have a nice quiet holiday with our friends and families.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t promise we\u2019ll make it by then, but we\u2019re sure giving it all we\u2019ve got. The mood around the Lab is really positive right now, and we\u2019re all working hard together to make it happen. I\u2019m really proud to be a part of the team that\u2019s transforming Second Life as we know it.<\/p>\n

Thanks so much for hanging in there with us. We know it\u2019s frustrating at times, but it won\u2019t last for too long, and there\u2019s a better future on the other side of this. We truly appreciate your understanding and patience as we finish up this project.<\/p>\n
