Folders upon folders of outdated products, duplicates, lost items, and things you completely forgot you purchased are all hidden somewhere in the depths of folders you\u2019ve accumulated over time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But don\u2019t worry! It doesn\u2019t have to be a scary endeavor to manage. We\u2019ve gathered some guidelines and secret tips to get your inventory freshened up and easy to navigate! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New year, new inventory. Find a sandbox, hop on your pose stand, and let\u2019s get started!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">** Note, we\u2019ll be demonstrating these tips using Firestorm Viewer 5.0.1.52150 &#8211; your interface may look different, but the tips should still be applicable for many versions and viewers!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2><b>Create the Basic Folders<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start by outlining the basic structure of items you have. To begin, don\u2019t get too detailed! Reorganize your items into their very general folder, then you can go back into each folder and make sub-categories later on.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clothing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shoes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accessories<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Body<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hair<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decorations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furniture<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buildings &amp; Structures<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Animals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cars &amp; Riders<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Textures<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Animations &amp; Dances<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holiday<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Games<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scripts<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone\u2019s inventory is very different. You\u2019ll be able to customize this outline specific to you &#8211; and you\u2019ll most certainly be adding folders as you go!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again, make sure at this step you are only making the very general folders, then going back into each folder later to organize them further. This will help make a big task not so daunting to start!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Delete the Demos<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you get started, do a quick inventory search for \u2018DEMO\u2019. Delete any demo folders and objects that may be hanging around &#8211; you can always go get another one for free if you really did need it! But chances are, they\u2019re just taking up space.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Unpack Your Received Items <\/b><b><i>\u00a0(&amp; delete the boxes they came in!)<\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first step I like to take before doing the real organizing is to empty the packages out of my \u2018Received Objects\u2019 folder. 9 times out of 10 when you purchase an item, the designer will send you a folder with one box. That box has the real goodies inside and is meant to be unpacked. Sometimes we unpack the item and forget to delete the folder and box it came in. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go through your received items and see if you have any folders you already unpacked but forgot to delete. If you\u2019re not sure, unpack it again. You can always delete the duplicates later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you find a Received Item that is not packaged and already unpacked within the folder, you can move that to one of your main folders now. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Unpack your Objects<\/b><b><i> (&amp; delete the boxes they came in!)<\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once your received items folder is empty, we can move onto the Objects folder! This folder is also one of the places that unpacked items you purchase can end up. You can delete boxes here that you\u2019ve already unpacked, or unpack them again to be sure. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will have a lot of items in here that are not in a box. For instance if you picked up an item from a Gacha Mall that was already unpacked, it will end up here. We of course don\u2019t want to delete the goodies, so place these items into the folders they belong in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Woohoo! Another clean folder. We\u2019re getting closer to being able to easily navigate our inventory.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Linked (Lost) Items<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking for an item you SWEAR you had and know the name of, but can\u2019t find for the life of you?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve ever accidentally forgot to pay rent and had your items sent back to you in a big cluster, you may have some items in your inventory that have a grid cube next to them like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3530\" src=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/96c6ab7b7d4036cb0d973b511c12a05e.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/96c6ab7b7d4036cb0d973b511c12a05e.png 455w, https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/96c6ab7b7d4036cb0d973b511c12a05e-300x76.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is because you either picked up a bunch of items together, or someone returned items to you all at once in a group. Find a big open sandbox and rez this item. Everything will be rezzed just the way it was picked up, and one by one you can pick up those objects and they\u2019ll be returned to where they belong. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s that platter of burritos I\u2019ve been looking for\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Drag &amp; Drop! <\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now you\u2019re ready for the big task, getting all of your objects and folders into their main category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personally, for a single item within a folder, I like to take out the item and delete the folder it came in. This just reduces the number of clicks to get me to what I want and removes all of the note cards and landmarks I have a thousand of.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below are a couple of tips to help you do this&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Multiple Inventory Windows<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After 8 years in SL I finally discovered this life saving inventory tip. Two inventory windows to drag and drop items from side to side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open up your inventory tab, and in the bottom left corner click on the gear. Choose \u2018New Inventory Window\u2019 &#8211; and viola!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3529\" src=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7b80655dc33c6eb318556588d28dc243.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"691\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7b80655dc33c6eb318556588d28dc243.png 510w, https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/7b80655dc33c6eb318556588d28dc243-221x300.png 221w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You now have two inventory windows to work with. I like to use one to keep open the folder I am working with, for instance \u2018Shoes\u2019. Then in the other, I search for all of the shoes I have to drag into the other window. Such a time and frustration saver!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Filter by Type<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Useful for finding all of your Animations, Gestures, Landmarks, Scripts, ect is the filtering feature. In your inventory window click on the gear in the bottom left corner. Then click on \u2018Show Filters\u2026\u2019. Here you can only click the checkbox of the item you want to find, for instance Gestures. Then, drag all of your gestures into the gestures folder to make digging around for them a whole lot easier!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3531\" src=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cce039e4e3b6dad42350f47fb107c454.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"673\" height=\"691\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cce039e4e3b6dad42350f47fb107c454.png 673w, https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/cce039e4e3b6dad42350f47fb107c454-292x300.png 292w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this example, I would go through and delete all of the baghold animations as well. A good touch to a purchase! But I don\u2019t need those anymore..<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2><b>Delete those Pesky Duplicates<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When an item is copy, you may find yourself placing and picking up multiple versions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3532\" src=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/de032f08a7c32e691b54e3029970280f.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/de032f08a7c32e691b54e3029970280f.png 353w, https:\/\/zoha-islands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/de032f08a7c32e691b54e3029970280f-300x96.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The item you want to keep is the one that is simply (transfer) delete all of the (no modify) (n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o transfer) items. You will still have a copy you can place a thousand times!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A good habit to get into is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">deleting<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> copy items that you want to remove from your sim rather than picking them back up. You will still have the main item in inventory, but you don\u2019t need more than that!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Delete Unneeded Sizes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never going to use that size XXXXXS that your sweater came in? Delete it! Keep the one, or ones that you will use. This will help you know exactly which one to attach the next time you go to wear it! And remember, if you end up needing another size down the line, you can always redeliver.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Resist the Hoarding Temptation<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you don\u2019t know what an item is, rez it or try it on. If it\u2019s hideous and you would never want your friends to see it&#8230; it\u2019s time to say goodbye.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, I mean to that beautiful prim dress you purchased in the summer of 2010 and haven\u2019t tried on since. You can do it, be strong.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Sub Category Organizing<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve finished organizing all of your items and folders into their main folder, you can go back in and organize them further if you wish. An example would be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hair<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Updo<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Occasion<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hair<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blonde<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Updo<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Occasion<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brunette<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Red<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pastel<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make this specific to your items and inventory &#8211; organize however you want!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Upkeep<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that the hard work is done and you\u2019ve got a squeaky clean inventory, make sure to keep it clean by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deleting the boxes and folders that you\u2019re goodies came in<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deleting demos after you\u2019ve tried them out<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organizing into your main folders as often as possible<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unpacking linked\/lost items as soon as \u00a0you see them<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deleting copies rather than keeping multiple<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deleting sizes of clothing you&#8217;ll never use<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deleting old outdated items that you\u2019ll never use again<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Managing your inventory may seem like a daunting task, but the time it will take you to do it will save you just as much when you go looking for that item you have in mind!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take it in small steps and work on it day by day.
